The Story
In the late 80s Hank Marvin worked together with Fender to develop a Hank Marvin signature Custom Shop Stratocaster. The first prototypes were made in the Custom Shop by legendary Fender Builder JW Black (Who had previouly built for Clapton, Bon Jovi, Bob Dylan etc).
In 1990 the official Fender distributor in the United Kingdom, Arbiter, asked the Custom Shop to make a first run of signature Strats to Hank Marvin specs. Twenty guitars were made with Lace Sensor pickups and a MDX circuit (like Clap-ton's Mid-Boost). Here's where history becomes vague. The reason is unclear, but Hank Marvin contacted Fender to stop everything. The guitars which had already been build were retired. But some were already sold and therefor still around! Check out the letter accompanying the guitar from Fender Importer, Arbiter.
More info about the history of the Hank Marvin Stratocasters on FuzzFaced (gotta love that website).
