The large CBS headstock, the Schaller F key tuners and that deep 1969 "U" neck shape put this guitar squarely in the most electrifying period in Stratocaster history. This is the late sixties Strat as it sounded on the records everyone still turns up loud: 69 Strat single coils with Alnico 5 magnets and enamel coated wire, a two piece alder body in 3 Color Sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer, and a full Relic treatment that gives it the honest wear of an instrument that has been out on the road rather than sitting under glass.

The neck is the thing you will notice first. Quartersawn maple with a medium tint nitro finish, carved to a 1969 "U" profile measuring 21.6 mm at the first fret and 23.1 mm at the twelfth, so there is real wood in your palm. The round laminated AAA rosewood fingerboard carries a 9.5" radius and mother of pearl dots with narrow spacing. It has been professionally refretted with 6150 stainless steel fret wire, which is a genuine upgrade rather than a repair: stainless steel is far harder than nickel silver, so the frets stay smooth and level for years of playing, bends feel effortless and you will not be looking at a fret dress any time soon. That combination of a chunky vintage profile with a modern radius and stainless frets is exactly why so many players prefer a Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster over a genuine sixties original: the feel is period correct, but nothing fights you when you bend.

The 69 Strat pickups deliver full, punchy tone with balanced highs, mids and lows. This is the voicing that defined the rock sound of the late sixties, and it responds beautifully to pedals: push it with a fuzz or an overdrive and it stays warm and vintage in character instead of collapsing into mush. Vintage Modified Wiring 1 with 250k split taper pots means the bridge pickup is no longer left without a tone control, so the brightest position on the guitar can now be rolled back to taste. Positions two and four still give you that unmistakable Strat cluck.

Details throughout are correct for the era: an F logo neck plate with the serial number, an American Vintage synchronized tremolo with the upgraded sixties style arm, a parchment three ply nitrate pickguard, a parchment backplate, aged white plastics and a nylon spring string tree. The guitar ships with its Fender Custom Shop certificate identifying it as a 1968 Stratocaster and its black Custom Shop hardshell case. In the interest of full transparency: there is a small discolouration on the headstock, most likely left behind by a clip on tuner. On a Relic finish it blends into the overall character of the guitar and it has no effect whatsoever on playability or tone.
