The two piece ash body wears Nocaster Blonde nitrocellulose lacquer in New Old Stock trim, which means no ageing and no relic work at all: it looks exactly like an instrument that left Fullerton last week and has been sitting in its crate ever since. Hand wound Loaded '51 Nocaster pickups sit beneath a one piece black phenolic pickguard, wired to modern Telecaster switching with a knurled chrome volume knob and a barrel switch tip.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe name is one of the great accidents in guitar history. Fender launched the world's first mass produced solidbody as the Broadcaster, then had to drop the name after Gretsch pointed out its Broadkaster drum kit. Rather than scrap a drawer full of decals, the factory simply snipped the model name off with scissors and shipped guitars carrying nothing but the Fender logo. Collectors later christened them Nocasters. Very few left the building, which is precisely why the Fender Custom Shop keeps returning to this spec.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Loaded set is the reason this one hits harder than a standard '51 pair. An Alnico 5 neck pickup adds body and warmth where the original ran thin, while the Alnico 3 bridge unit keeps that flush pole vintage character and delivers the snap, cut and midrange bark a Telecaster is supposed to have. Roll the volume back and it cleans up into pure early fifties chime. Push it and you get the raw, woody bite that made this guitar the default tool for country, blues, rock and everything since. The 50's truss rod, vintage disc string tree, three saddle bridge with brass barrel saddles and vintage style tuners with Fender logo complete a build that stays faithful right down to the vintage silver Tele headstock decal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne thing to point out: this guitar was refretted before it came to us, with 6150 wire in place of the narrow tall wire the Custom Shop fitted at the factory. It was already done when we bought it, so we cannot tell you who carried out the work, but the job is tidy and the neck plays exactly as it should. If anything the wire is an improvement on the original spec. 6150 is a touch wider, which gives you more surface under the string, smoother bends and easier vibrato control, and it does that without pulling the neck away from the vintage feel it is built around.
